Last weekend we took the WNR Kawasaki team, with just 1 rider, to Round 2 of the Australian FX Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park. It was Richie Leech’s 4th road race and he is now leading his class and has jumped an impressive 6 places in the overall FX Superbike Championship.
I’m not hiding the fact that we are aiming at winning the Yamaha motorcycle which is up for grabs. The highest placed C or D grade rider in the FX Superbike Championship wins a new Yamaha 450 dirt bike. That’s a good incentive but driving home last night we talked about getting into the top 5 of the FX Superbike Championship, and maybe even higher. We started the weekend in 15th position and Richie is now 9th in the Championship.
It was good to spend a bit more time with Richie and his mechanic Gary Matthews. We made small improvements to the bike and have now found a good direction. They are 2 great guys that are there for one thing, to do the job.
Life is busy now getting ready for the next round of the Australian SBK Championship. We are building another bike and possibly another. On the weekend I spoke with Kawasaki and another Kawasaki rider about running 2 bikes in Supersport. It sounds great but there’s a lot of work to make it happen. It’s so tempting because we know Aaron (Gobert) can win on the original bike now and the other rider is very capable as well. 2 WNR bikes on a podium...?
At home it’s a tough week ahead. Aston is having his tonsils taken out tomorrow. I know many parents have dealt with this just like mine did but I’m the biggest sook! When he was a little over 1 year old I had to hold him in a head lock whilst the dentist pulled out his tooth. It was so traumatising for him. It’s more painful for me than crashing at 300km/h. He will always be my baby boy no matter how big and tough he gets!
It’s starting to get chilly here in Oz and the other day I saw a learner riding so fast, in shorts. Wherever you go, dress appropriately. Especially on a motorbike!!
